Investigation of couple's infertility includes assessment of ovulation, tubal damage and uterine abnormalities; and assessment of semen parameters, including sperm count, ability to swim (motility), velocity or forward progression, size and shape of the sperm (morphology), total semen volume, the liquefaction of the semen (the ability to go from normal gel-like state at ejaculation to a liquid state).
Screening for infections such as Chlamydia trachomatis and susceptibility to rubella, is also done.
